Nathaniel b. May 1763
John b. May 26 1765
Christopher b. Aug 14 1767
Frances b. Aug 23 1769
George b. June 2, 1771
The above information comes from "Reliques of the Rives" by James Rives Childs published 1929. Childs gives an extensive account of Christopher Rives and his descendants starting on page 451. He also includes an excursus of Mason, Chappell, and Briggs.
Christopher's father was George Rives, born 1689 died 1746, His grandfather was Timothy Rives born 1670, died 1716 who was originally thought to be a son of the emigrant William. However, it looks like Timothy Rives born 1625 Oxfordshire England, was most likely the emigrant and that William was another one of his sons.
My line descends from George born 1660 died after 1719 Brother to Timothy b.1670
I started with Childs book and I've been adding information about my branch of the family where I could. I have also been checking Childs' references, at least the ones I can get my hands on. He did a remarkable job. So far, everything looks good. He released amendments to his book in the July 1957 issue of the Virginia Magazine of History and Biography.
As you saw by my post, I am looking into the France/England connection of the Family. I would also like to solve the of Timothy Vs. William question.
Since you are in Virginia, You may be able to help. The question arose from a record of the estate of a Timothy Rieve in a Charles City County Order Book for 1687-1695. Prior to this discovery, William was the earliest recorded member of the family in America.
