He was a Member of Council, Signer of Dec. of Ind., Capt of Artilery as listed on the DAR papers of Mattie Horry (Howard) Martin.
He studied law in the Middle Temple. He was a member of the Commons House of Assembly (S.C.), a member of the First Continental Congress, Signer of the Declaration of Independence, Captain of Artillery, wounded at Beaufort. Imprisoned and exiled to St. Augustine, FL.

Thomas Heyward Jr. married Elizabeth Mathewes before 4 May 1786. The DAR papers of Mattie Horry (Howard) Martin state that there was issue from this marriage, but they were not listed (not in direct line).
Thomas Heyward Jr. married Elizabeth Savage on 4 May 1786 at Granville, South Carolina, USA. He was 39 at the time. Married at Mr. Hill's plantation, Granville, SC.
In the lineage papers of Mattie Horry (Howard) Martin, his death date is listed as 1833, the same as his wife.
Elizabeth Savage is also listed as his second wife. Must be verified.
Thomas Heyward Jr. died on 17 April 1809 at White Hall Plantation, Granville County, South Carolina, USA, at age 62.
